Uniswap Labs Taps Ex-Coinbase Lawyer as CLO Amidst Regulatory Scrutiny
Uniswap Labs bolsters its legal team with a seasoned lawyer as the SEC threatens enforcement action.

Uniswap Labs, the company behind the popular decentralized exchange (DEX) Uniswap, has brought on board Katherine Minarik as its new chief legal officer (CLO). Minarik, a former legal executive at Coinbase, takes the helm amidst growing regulatory concerns surrounding Uniswap.
This appointment comes just two months after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a Wells Notice to Uniswap Labs, indicating a potential enforcement action. The SEC alleges that Uniswap’s protocol functions as an unregistered securities exchange.
“It is impossible to spend time in crypto and not be inspired by the potential of DeFi to change the world,” Minarik said on a social media platform. “I am humbled to be taking on this new role at Uniswap Labs, continuing another part of the fight for economic inclusion and the future of finance for all of us.”
Minarik joins Uniswap Labs with extensive experience, having served as vice president of legal and deputy general counsel at Coinbase for four years. She succeeds Marvin Ammori, the former CLO at Uniswap Labs, who will transition to a part-time role in November.
Uniswap faces a legal battle in the coming months as the SEC investigates its compliance with securities regulations. Minarik’s appointment signals Uniswap’s preparedness to navigate these legal challenges.
